As a result of the creation of the Iron Gates I Reservoir, the old settlement of the city was flooded in 1970, and the population was relocated to a new location, including the terraces of the Danube and Cerna rivers and the southern slope of the Almăj Mountains, where a completely new city was built (1966-1971), which also included the villages of Jupalnic, Tufări, and Coramnic.
