Tabula Traiana marks the beginning of Trajan's suspended road on the territory of Dacia (40 km).
In certain sections where they could not carve a direct path by removing the rocks, square holes were cut into the stone above the water at equal distances.
Strong horizontal beams were fixed into these holes, over which a wooden bridge was placed.
The holes in the rock where the bridge's beams were secured are still visible today.
Tabula Traiana is the only one remaining out of the ten stone-carved plaques, and to preserve it, it was relocated approximately 30 meters above its original position.
In 1856, when the water level was not the same as today, it is said that four of the ten plaques could still be seen.
One of the oldest monuments in the area, dating back to Roman times! Discover its history aboard a Danube cruise.
